Dr. Shahid Athar receives Indianapolis Community Service Award

Congratulations to Islam For Today contributor Dr. Shahid Athar, President of The Islamic Medical Association of North America, who received the Otis R. Bowen Physician Community Service Award on September 15, 2002.

Each year the Indianapolis Medical Society presents this award to a physician who gives of his time outside of his medical practice to community service. Dr. Athar has volunteered his health care services to the homeless through the Gennesaret Free Clinic for many years. He is also past chairperson of the Interfaith Alliance of Indianapolis and frequently volunteers his time to speak about Islam at churches and conferences locally and internationally.
