Islamic Council Condemns Attacks in US
The President of the Islamic
Council of Victoria (ICV), Mr Yasser Soliman, said today that Muslims are
shocked and appalled at yesterday's attacks in New York and Washington.
He said the Islamic Council of
Victoria unreservedly condemns the action of those responsible for the loss of
life that has resulted from the attacks.
Terrorism, the killing of innocent
people, is a crime against God and against humanity.
Mr Soliman said that there is a
need for great care in identifying the perpetrators of the crimes. He stressed
that irresponsible speculation and premature apportioning of blame would only
damage community relations here in Victoria and put public safety at risk.
In the present climate he said
Muslims, like other groups, are concerned about any heightened threat to their
security. The Muslim community therefore looks to the State and Federal
authorities to do everything necessary to help protect the property and personal
safety of Australian Muslims.
