September 28, 2006

The artist formerly know as Cat Stevens made his live comeback on Tuesday by paying special tribute to former US President Bill Clinton.

The Muslim convert, now known as Yusuf Islam, performed at the launch of The Fortune Forum Club, a fundraising initiative, in London, and insisted he would never have agreed to the gig without the statesman's involvement.

He said, "Bill Clinton is one of the good things we miss about America.

"I remember being little and dreaming of the things this world offers. I promised myself if I got them I was going to give back."

Islam played in front of a star-studded audience including Michael Douglas, Sir Richard Branson and supermodel Lily Cole, as well as his two daughters, Asman, 24, and Aminah, 26.

The Morning Has Broken singer converted to Islam in 1977 and quit the music industry two years later. He will release his first pop music album in 28 years in November
